Flickering Lights Sesame Seed Cake

1/3 cup Sesame seeds
1/3 cup Butter or margarine, softened
1 cup Sugar
2 Eggs
2 teaspoons Vanilla
2 cups Flour
2 1/2 teaspoons Baking powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 cup Milk
3/4 cup Whole shelled, natural American pistachios, chopped
Sweetened whipped cream
Slivered dried apricots


Toast seeds in skillet until light golden and fragrant. Cool. Cream butter with sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Mix flour with baking powder, salt and sesame seeds. Mix into creamed mixture alternately with milk. Fold in 1/2 cup pistachios. Turn into greased and floured 9-inch round layer cake pan. Bake at 375°F. for 40 minutes or until a pick inserted into center comes out dry. Cool 15 minutes then invert onto wire rack to cool. Decorate with whipped cream, slivered apricots and remaining 1/4 cup pistachios.
