USA Women Take Bronze At World League Super Final With 10-9 Victory Over Hungary

Beijing, China - June 6 - The USA Water Polo Women's Senior National Team took home the bronze medal from the 2013 FINA World League Super Final with a 10-9 victory over Hungary. Lolo Silver (Long Beach, CA/Stanford/NYAC), Annika Dries (Laguna Beach, CA/Stanford/SET), and Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/Diablo) each scored twice in the win while Betsey Armstrong (Ann Arbor, MI/Michigan/NYAC) posted eight saves in goal. Next up for Team USA will be the FINA World Championships starting in late July in Barcelona, Spain.

Hungary started off the match strong leading 4-1 after the first period and 5-3 at halftime. In the third the United States offense came to life, outscoring Hungary 5-1 to take an 8-6 lead headed to the fourth. Hungary outscored Team USA 3-2 in the final period but the damage had been done and the United States was able to come away winners at 10-9. The United States picked up the win despite going 1/7 on power plays while Hungary was 5/9.

"I'm pleased with the way we battled back after a poor start," said USA Head Coach Adam Krikorian. "Overall, we leave China with a ton of work to do when we return home."
